- Women’s Walks–Wednesdays, 6:30pm – Join Dorothy Paun at the trail head at the end of West Lake Desire Drive (clubhouse road). It began getting dark during our walk last WED, so lets start at 6:30 pm. BTW, several of us intend to continue walking into the fall, maybe winter! I can't walk on WED 9.16 or 9.23, but I hope you do. Anyone up for walking on MON 9.14 and/or MON 9.21? Contact Dorothy, to.e@comcast.net.
- Women’s Workouts – Starts Tuesdays 10/13, 7:30-8:30pm -Lake Desire Women are invited to start working out at the Clubhouse on Tuesdays. A pilate instructor, Connie, will lead the group for a small fee. You can sign up monthly or on a drop in basis. They need a core group to start the program. Contact Lynn, Snips4@aol.com or Heather, Heather.Stafford@comcast.net for details.
- Jobs Wanted - Hi I'm Austin Wetherbee and I'm looking for yard work and odd jobs including splitting firewood, dog walking, etc. My home phone number is 425 235 7691. Submitted by Austin, kwetherbee@comcast.net.
- City of Renton Emergency Notification System - The CodeRed™ system provides Renton City officials with the ability to provide pre-recorded emergency telephone notification/information messages to targeted areas or the entire city. Residents and businesses are encouraged to sign up for CodeRed™ to be sure they receive timely emergency notifications when alerts are issued. Examples include: evacuation notices, bio-terrorism alerts, boil water notices, and missing child reports. It takes just a few seconds to fill in your address, phone and email/text information at the following webpage: https://login.coderedweb.com/codereddataentry/

- Lake Desire Emergency Preparedness Meeting – 10/6/09, 7pm - Our next meeting is coming up at Kathy Shertz’s house, 18533 W Lk Desire Dr SE, 425-228-8666. Contact katshertz@q.com if you would like to help out in any way. Here is a great website Kathy found for various emerg. Preparedness ideas: http://72hours.org/.
- LAKE DESIRE EMERGENCY TEAM is working on a system for notification, and assistance, in the event of an emergency in our neighborhood. We have obtained a great deal of information from various organizations. Kathy Shertz will meet with Washington State Dept. of Natural Resources personnel on 9/18 to tour our area so they can determine what type of program will best suit our needs. Lynn Glessner is working on the "Map Your Neighborhood" program. Heather Smith maintains the neighborhood data base and sends out the information e-mails and neighborhood alerts. Phyllis Miller will lead a team that will contact each property owner in the neighborhood to find out how best the LDET can serve them. The LDET has compiled a list of property owners/tenants for our neighborhood. We hope to obtain phone contact information for everyone for emergency contact purposes. Volunteers are needed from around the neighborhood to help with emergency notification/assistance. If you would like to help (you can make a list of neighbors/area you would cover), or would like to be contacted, please contact Heather Smith at heather@smith.net or Kathy Shertz at katshertz@q.com. With the July 17th fire on Echo Mt. still fresh in our minds, the LDET hopes residents will participate in our efforts. As winter approaches it might be a good time to check the following:
- EMERGENCY GENERATORS: Service your generator, or have it serviced. If battery started be sure the battery is adequate and charged. Have a supply of fuel on hand. Store fuel responsibly. GENERATORS MUST BE OPERATED OUTDOORS.
- DRAINAGE: Roof gutters should be cleaned and free flowing. Downspouts should direct water away from your foundation. If there is a roadside ditch or culvert abutting your property, check for blockages. Remove debris and leaves from the ditch and culverts. We can no longer depend on King County Road Dept. to perform regular maintenance. If there is a broken culvert (that belongs to King County) or a blockage that you cannot deal with, call KC Roads Maintenance Office (206-296-3803) and leave a message including the correct address.
INSURANCE: Contact your insurance agent to review your homeowner's policy. Generally, fallen tree damage is only covered if the tree damages a structure. Lakefront homeowners
can check to see if flood insurance would cover flooding from a lake flooding event
